Having to go to a weight loss camp as a teenager is no picnic. There is a stigma attached to weight loss camps in some circles that is almost as bad as the stigma attached to being fat. Nevertheless, if you are a young person who needs to lose weight fast, you should discard the stigma. Once people see how much better you look at your new weight, they will be proud of you for what you have accomplished.
I went to my first weight loss camp when I was pretty young. It was actually more of a fitness camp, but my parents were definitely sending me there because I was overweight. I developed unhealthy eating habits very young, and as a result my parents wanted to solve the problem as soon as possible. Nonetheless, weight loss camps require your participation to work, And I wasn't really mature enough to see that it was in my own interests. Instead, I fought my parents tooth and nail. I did lose a little bit of weight at the camp, but it was nowhere near enough.
My parents were smart enough to drop the subject of weight loss camps for the next several years. Although they tried to get me to eat healthy, I was still a little pudgy. When I hit adolescence, I went into a deep depression and put on quite a bit of weight in a very short period of time. My parents were extremely concerned, and decided to talk to me about weight loss camps again.
Of course, there is nothing more depressing to an overweight adolescent than hearing people accusing him or her of being fat. I was not initially receptive to my parents talk of weight loss camps, needless to say. When I thought of a weight-loss teen camp, I pictured kids who were morbidly obese – way fatter than I was. I didn't want to think of myself as heavy enough to require special treatment.
Nonetheless, soon I started to think it over and decide that it was a good idea. I knew that my friends didn't need to know that I was going to a teen weight-loss camp. For all they knew, I was going on a family vacation. It was pretty perfect timing, because while weight loss camps were in session, my parents were going to be away. As such, I could tell my friends whatever story I wanted when I came back. When I got back, however, I looked so good that I had to tell everyone the truth. They were impressed!
