Diagnosing frozen shouldersA doctor does the diagnosis of a frozen shoulder after examination of the patient. Hers the doctor studies the entire history of the injury or any surgery if any. A detailed analysis of made only after a careful history and physical examination is performed. Pain and lack of mo0vement are symptoms of frozen shoulders conditions, hence a detailed assessment of the shoulder is important. Even illnesses like diabetes, chest or breast surgery is taken for examination to get the accurate diagnoses. It is very important to diagnose the different patterns where there is motion loss. The primary adhesive capsulitis is commonly to do with the movement of the shoulder in all the directions. The secondary adhesive capsulitis is to do with specific and more defined movement’s .in most cases the history and the examination are sufficient to whether the patient has or does not have a frozen shoulder.
Medicines:
In most cases of primary adhesive capsulitis an x-ray cannot show the cause of a shoulder’s pain or stiffness. But in the case of the secondary adhesive capsulitis the x-rays show signs of arthritis, fractures or metal plates that might be the cause of the lack or loss of movement of the shoulder. Another way to diagnose a frozen shoulder is An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) it shows soft tissue that may be in case of another disorder, such as a rotator cuff tear. An arthrogram is used with an MRI to give more information about structures in the shoulder for this a dye is injected into the shoulder and images are formed and obtained. The dye creates a contrast making the specific location of the pain and problem in the shoulder more visible. Another test is the Stone Clinic test, which studies the movement of your arm, and by the use of an X-ray or MRI it further detects the condition. Treatments are there to give relief and reduce discomfort and eventually getting the movement of the shoulder back to normal.
There are Non operative treatment that includes Medications to reduce the burning sensation and inflammation and relieve the chronic pain and stiffness and Helps to relax the muscles. Physical therapy combined with home exercises like stretching and extending the arm help to increase shoulder movement. Hot water bad or ice pack treatments are also very important and beneficial. And Corticosteroid injections are also very beneficial. The exercises should be done several times a day. Surgery is an option. Arthroscopy surgery can successfully release and repair the shoulder, but an exercise program to maintain motion and restore function must follow it. An arthrogram is like a joint x-ray after an injection. It is similsr to a MRI scan in which the shoulder is scanned frommany angles at a time therby giving a more clearer picture for furthur examination.
